Radio Emission from the Double Pulsar System J0737−3039 Revisited
The double pulsar J0737−3039 is the only known system where the relativistic wind emitted by a radio pulsar demonstrably interacts with the magnetosphere of another one. We report radio interferometric observations of the J0737−3039 system with the VLA at three wavelengths, with each observation spanning a full binary orbit. We detect J0737−3039 at 1.6 and 4.8 GHz, derive a spectral index of −2...
متن کاملPulsar spectra of radio emission
We have collected pulsar flux density observations and compiled spectra of 281 objects. The database of Lorimer et al. (1995) has been extended to frequencies higher than 1.4 GHz and lower than 300 MHz. Our results show that above 100 MHz the spectra of the majority of pulsars can be described by a simple power law with average value of spectral index < α >= −1.8 ± 0.2. A rigorous analysis of s...
متن کاملDepolarization of Pulsar Radio Emission.
We show that intensity-dependent depolarization of single pulses may be due to the nonlinear decay of the "upper" ordinary (O) mode into an unpolarized extraordinary mode and a backward-propagating wave. The decay occurs in the innermost parts of the pulsar magnetosphere for obliquely propagating O waves.
متن کاملOn the Nature of Pulsar Radio Emission
A theory of pulsar radio emission generation, in which the observed waves are produced directly by maser-type plasma instabilities operating at the anomalous cyclotron-Cherenkov resonance ω − k‖v‖ + ωB/ γres = 0 and the Cherenkov-drift resonance ω − k‖v‖ − k⊥ud = 0, is capable of explaining the main observational characteristics of pulsar radio emission. The instabilities are due to the interac...
متن کاملRadio Emission Signatures in the Crab Pulsar
Our high time resolution observations of individual pulses from the Crab pulsar show that both the time and frequency signatures of the interpulse are distinctly different from those of the main pulse. Main pulses can occasionally be resolved into short-lived, relatively narrow-band nanoshots. We believe these nanoshots are produced by soliton collapse in strong plasma turbulence. Interpulses a...
